Helping The Poor

When the government uses it's income to help the poor it becomes a magnet for corrupt politicians. The politicians controlling the funds are often not interested in helping the poor. Usually, they get involved only because it makes them look good. A result of this is mediocore solutions. The solution that gives them the best press coverage wins rather than the most effective solution. They may even switch from a solution that is working well to one that hardly helps at all just because they want to get some press coverage from it. The problem is that they are driven by the desire for votes and power rather than the desire to help poor people. You cannot delegate moral responsibilities to corrupt governments.

Libertarianism aims to solve this problem by getting the government out of the process and letting the people help the poor by donating money that would have gone to the government to a church or charity that they find to be most effective. It is hard to financially support the poor when the government takes all your money.
